Vienna International Airport transfers by car and coach
Vienna International Airport is about 18 km from the city, 25-45 minutes by road. Every passenger leaves through one arrivals hall, which makes meeting simple; the harder part is the coach ban in the 1st district.
One arrivals hall, two sliding doors
Whether the flight uses Terminal 1, 1A or 3, all passengers leave through the same arrivals hall via two sliding doors. Chauffeurs and group hosts wait there. Short-term car park K3 sits just before the hall, so the walk to a car or executive van is short. For a group, the host counts heads at the doors before leading anyone out; with only two exits, stragglers are easy to spot.

Coach stopping and parking areas at the terminal
Coach operators have stopping and parking areas near both departures and arrivals. The driver stages there and moves up once the group is through the doors. A coach and an executive van can serve the same flight, one for the delegation and one for speakers, without either blocking the other.
The Innere Stadt ban and the Ring set-down points
Coaches have been banned from driving in the Innere Stadt, the 1st district, since 1 May 2014. Groups staying there are set down at card-free points such as Börseplatz, Burgring, Friedrich-Schmidt-Platz, Schwedenplatz or Votivkirche, then walk. Most set-down points operate daily 08:00-20:00; Westbahnhof and Grinzing run 24 hours, so a late-evening landing needs its own plan.
Hotels in Leopoldstadt, Landstraße or Wieden are outside the 1st district, and the ban itself does not reach them. Bus parking spaces generally cannot be reserved, which is why the operator, not the hotel, decides where the coach waits.
Advent Saturdays and cross-border routes
On pre-Christmas Saturdays Vienna runs an Advent coach plan, published each late October. Groups arriving for the Rathausplatz market, 13 November to 26 December 2026, should expect set-downs to follow it. Bratislava is about 80 km away and Budapest about 245 km, so some groups fly into Vienna and cross a border by road; that is international coach work, with the paperwork carried by the operator.
Questions
Can a coach reach a hotel in the 1st district?
No. It stops at a Ring set-down point and the group walks the last stretch. An executive van can often get closer with the bags.
We land at 22:30. Does that change anything?
Most set-down points close at 20:00. The operator plans around that, using a 24-hour point or a smaller vehicle.
Is Schönbrunn a sensible first stop?
It can be. Bus parking at Schönbrunner Schloßstraße 50 has 48 coach spaces, so a group can visit before check-in.
Can we use Bratislava Airport instead?
Some groups do. It is about 80 km from Vienna, and the transfer is priced like any other road journey.
