Rome airport transfers, chauffeur service and group transport
Rome sells coach access by permit, zone by zone, and since 1 January 2026 only online. The Fiumicino run is the easy part.
Fiumicino: NCC pick-up and the Terminal 3 coach hub
Chauffeur (NCC) drivers use Multipiano B ground floor for T1 or PR7 for T3, for up to 40 minutes, via the NCC hub. Chauffeur cars must be pre-booked; there is no rank pick-up. Coaches load at T3 Arrivals, stands 20-26 by exit 6, following the Bus Station signs.
T1 handles domestic and Schengen flights, T3 non-Schengen and intercontinental, so a group on mixed flights can land in two places. Flag non-Schengen arrivals: passport queues sit badly against a 40-minute window. The centre is about 30 km, 40-60 minutes.
ZTL BUS permits: zones A, B and C
Tourist buses need ZTL BUS permits: zones A and C around the clock, zone B from 05:00 to 24:00. Zone C, the historic centre, is closed except to school trips, hotels with 40 or more rooms and disabled transport. The Pantheon and the Trevi Fountain are walk-ins from outside.
So the hotel's room count is a transport question. Check it before the hotel contract is signed, not after.

Colosseum and Vatican: booked parking and daily quotas
Colosseum permits include pre-booked parking and boarding areas such as Circo Massimo. Vatican-area coach access is quota-limited every day of the week. Secure the coach slot alongside the museum entry time. The Baths of Caracalla have coach parking on via delle Terme di Caracalla, by permit.
La Nuvola, Fiera di Roma and the port
La Nuvola is in EUR; Fiera di Roma is on the Fiumicino airport road, convenient for delegates travelling straight from arrivals. Civitavecchia port is about 80 km from the city, 1-1.5 hours. Tivoli makes a half-day at 45-60 minutes each way.
School parties and disabled passengers: the zone C exceptions
Zone C stays open to school trips and disabled transport. A student group or a party with wheelchair users may therefore be set down closer to the centre than a corporate group of the same size. State the group type in the brief, because it changes both the permit and the route.
Questions
Does the Vatican quota apply at weekends?
Yes. Vatican-area coach access is quota-limited every day of the week, so weekend visits need the same advance planning.
Can the coach stop at the Trevi Fountain?
No. It lies inside ZTL BUS C, which is closed to tourist coaches outside the listed exceptions. Set down outside and walk in.
Who buys the ZTL BUS permit?
Have it stated on the quote. Permits are sold online only since 1 January 2026, so the purchase belongs in the lead time.
How far is Civitavecchia from Fiumicino?
About 60 km, 40-60 minutes by road.
