Church group travel and pilgrimages by coach
Parish trips and pilgrimages often run for a week or more, cross borders and visit sites with strict coach rules. We arrange coaches with licensed partner operators and plan around both the route and the driver's rest.
Long pilgrimages and the 12-day rule
On a single international occasional service, drivers may postpone weekly rest under the 12-day rule. Weekly rest is 45 continuous hours, reducible to 24 hours every second week. For a pilgrimage, that means a two-week route can run with one driver if it is planned properly, and the rest day can double as a pilgrims' rest day at a shrine town.
Arriving at sacred sites by coach
Coach access around the Vatican runs on a daily cap, seven days a week, so a Mass at St Peter's needs a slot requested early. Sagrada Família stops need an advance Zona Bus booking. Notre-Dame de Paris reopened in December 2024, but tourist coaches are barred from central Paris, so the group walks the last part. In Vienna, St. Stephen's Cathedral is in the Innere Stadt, where coaches are barred; groups use Ring set-down points. Matthias Church in Budapest's Castle District needs a BABU permit for the coach.
Fátima from Lisbon
Fátima is about 130 km from Lisbon, 1.25-1.5 hours, and works as a day trip or as the first stop straight from the airport. An overnight stay there lets the group attend evening devotions without a late return.
Parishioners with limited mobility
Many parish groups include older travellers. Allow time at every set-down, especially where stops are short, such as Budapest's Castle zone at 15 minutes. A wheelchair-accessible minibus can travel alongside the coach, and a seat near the door for those who find the steps hard is worth requesting.
