Brussels airport transfers, chauffeurs and delegation coaches

Brussels is a city of delegations and summits, and its low emission zone now decides which coach turns up. The tightening on 1 January 2026 is the first thing to check.

The Brussels LEZ after 1 January 2026

The low emission zone takes in all 19 Brussels-Capital municipalities; only the R0 ring sits outside it. Since 1 January 2026 Euro 5 diesel buses and coaches have been banned. Foreign-registered vehicles must also be registered before they enter.

For a group coming in by coach from the Netherlands, France or Germany, confirm that the vehicle is both compliant and registered. The operator carries that duty, but you carry the cost of a coach turned back on the morning of a summit.

Short-stop and medium-stop zones for coaches

Brussels runs coach stops on two tiers. Boulevard de Berlaimont, near Central Station, is a short-stop zone with a 30-minute limit: right for a Grand-Place or Manneken Pis drop. Medium-stop zones allow up to five hours at Rue Ducale, Avenue de Bouchout and Boulevard Pachéco. Rue Ducale serves the Royal Palace and Parc de Bruxelles. At Heysel, coaches for the Atomium park behind Mini-Europe.

Zaventem: arrivals hall for chauffeurs, Level 0 for coaches

Brussels Airport has one terminal with Piers A and B, about 12 km from the city and 20 to 40 minutes by road. Chauffeurs meet passengers in the arrivals hall. Coach groups follow the Bus signs down to the bus station on Level 0, about 100 m along a covered walkway, so luggage stays dry.

Brussels South Charleroi is about 55 km away. Budget it as an intercity transfer, not an airport hop.

The European Quarter, Heysel and day trips

Delegates based in the European Quarter or on Avenue Louise often need chauffeur cars between meetings rather than a coach. For Brussels Expo or King Baudouin Stadium, a coach shuttle from Gare du Nord or Pentagon hotels works well. SQUARE on the Mont des Arts is within walking distance of central hotels.

Ghent and Antwerp are under an hour away, Waterloo about 30 to 45 minutes, and Bruges, about 100 km, 1 to 1.5 hours.

Our coach comes from abroad. What does Brussels require?

A compliant vehicle (Euro 5 diesel coaches are banned since 1 January 2026) and registration with the LEZ before entry.

Where can a coach wait during a Grand-Place visit?

Boulevard de Berlaimont allows 30 minutes. For longer visits the coach moves to a medium-stop zone such as Rue Ducale, for up to five hours.

Is the R0 ring part of the LEZ?

No. The R0 is excluded, so an orbital routing on it stays outside the zone.

Can a chauffeur meet an arriving delegate inside the terminal?

Yes. Chauffeurs meet passengers in the arrivals hall at Brussels Airport.
