Vienna airport transfers, chauffeur service and group transport

Coaches have been banned from driving in Vienna's Innere Stadt since 1 May 2014. Groups get on and off at the Ring, and most set-down points close at 20:00.

Vienna International Airport: one hall, two doors

Every arriving passenger exits the single arrivals hall through one of two sliding doors, which makes a meet-and-greet simple to specify. A group split across several flights can still gather at one point. Short-term car park K3 sits just before the hall, and coach operators have stopping and parking areas near departures and arrivals. The centre is about 18 km, 25-45 minutes. Bratislava Airport, about 80 km away, is the alternative for some itineraries.

Innere Stadt ban and the Ring set-down points

Card-free set-down points include Börseplatz, Burgring, Friedrich-Schmidt-Platz, Schwedenplatz and Votivkirche. Most operate daily from 08:00 to 20:00; Westbahnhof and Grinzing run 24 hours. Bus parking generally cannot be reserved. St Stephen's Cathedral is a walk from the Ring.

An opera night ending after 20:00 needs its pick-up agreed in advance. For principals, an executive car is the simpler answer.

Schönbrunn, Belvedere and Grinzing

Schönbrunn has bus parking at Schönbrunner Schloßstraße 50, with 48 coach spaces. Belvedere and Hundertwasserhaus have designated set-down points. Grinzing's Heurigen set-down is open 24 hours, which suits a late wine-tavern dinner.

Congress days and Advent Saturdays

Austria Center Vienna is next to UNO-City; Messe Wien is by the Prater. Congress delegates staying in Leopoldstadt or Landstraße sit outside the 1st district, so their shuttles avoid the ban altogether. An Advent coach plan covers pre-Christmas Saturdays and is published each late October; the Rathausplatz Christkindlmarkt runs 13 November to 26 December 2026. Hold Saturday coach plans until the Advent plan is out.

Bratislava, the Wachau and cross-border days

Melk Abbey and the Wachau are 1-1.25 hours out, as is Bratislava; Budapest is 2.5-3 hours. A day in Bratislava or Budapest crosses a border, so it runs as an international occasional service: the operator holds a Community licence and carries a journey form. On the Budapest run, the Castle District needs its own BABU permit.

Questions

Can a coach drive into the 1st district to reach a hotel?

No. The Innere Stadt coach driving ban has applied since 1 May 2014; use a Ring set-down point and walk, or send luggage and principals by car.

Can I reserve coach parking near the Hofburg?

Bus parking generally cannot be reserved. Burgring is the nearby set-down point.

Where can the coach collect after a late Grinzing dinner?

The Grinzing set-down runs 24 hours.

When is the Advent coach plan published?

Each late October, covering the pre-Christmas Saturdays.
