Full-size coach hire: 49-57 seats with driver

Seats, length and luggage
Typical seating is 49-57 on a two- or three-axle vehicle roughly 12-14 m long. Luggage travels in underfloor bays, about 12 m³ on a 13 m Tourismo, which leaves the aisle and racks for day bags. Seat belts are fitted at passenger seats and wearing them is compulsory where fitted; a reminder from the group leader at the first departure sets the habit for the trip.

Tachograph and Regulation 561/2006
Every coach has a tachograph, and driving and rest times follow Regulation (EC) 561/2006: 9 hours' driving a day, extendable to 10 twice a week, and a 45-minute break after 4.5 hours. On a touring programme those limits set the daily distance more than the map does. Send the whole itinerary so the operator can judge whether one driver covers it.
Where a 12-14 m coach cannot go
Many European centres now keep large coaches out. Amsterdam lets a coach heavier than 7.5 tonnes inside its S100 ring only with an exemption. Vienna has banned coaches from the Innere Stadt since 2014. Prague limits them to paid stands on the heritage-zone perimeter. Munich has no coach parking inside the Altstadtring, and Paris has barred tourist coaches from its centre since 2024. In each case the coach unloads at an approved point and passengers finish on foot, so hotel choice and luggage plans should allow for it.
When a smaller vehicle serves better
For about 30 passengers, a midi coach is often the better fit: shorter, more manoeuvrable and easier to place at a hotel. For a group split across two hotels, two midis can beat one large coach on time.
